featuring ‘dalla notte al mattino’ by La Cosa Preziosa
Supported by: Goethe Institute Belgrade, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Radio Belgrade, European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU) Ars Acustica Group, the Institute for Music and Sound at the Centre for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe (ZKM)
Out of 186 contributions submitted from 25 European countries, an international jury selected ten winning entries and invited the artists to a workshop and to present a live performance in Karlsruhe in October 2011.
From the press release: ‘(...) The entries submitted ranged from finely captured audio landscapes and dense acoustic conglomerates depicting the multitude of sounds in an urban space, to rhythm montages, strolls and the occasional light-hearted portrait of a region. (…) The large number, variety and high quality of the entries clearly demonstrates that there are outstanding artists in the field of radio art and composition.’
In Karlsruhe the ten winners developed a live, multichannel European sound panorama, drawing from their combined works and some new material, under the guidance of sound artist Thomas Köner. This new ensemble piece was performed alongside the individual ten winning entries a as part of the Audio Kultur Festival at ZKM on 22nd October, and broadcast by Deutschland Radio Kultur and participating European radio stations.
